What this service is
A Better Choice is a free service for ranked-choice polls. Whoever creates a poll shares it by its link; anyone who knows the link can open the poll and vote. There are no user accounts and no public directory of polls.
The service is provided as a private project, without warranty. There is no claim to availability, no promise of uninterrupted operation and no guaranteed response time. Maintenance, outages, changes to the feature set and the temporary or permanent discontinuation of the service are possible at any time. Results that matter to you should therefore be saved on your side.
Scope of use
Use is free for private individuals and for non-commercial, personal purposes. That explicitly includes an individual using the service on their own initiative at work — for example to settle a date, a name or an order of preference within a team.
It is different when a company or an organisation adopts the service as such: an official rollout, use under your own branding, integration into your own systems, and any use that requires assurances about availability, support or data processing all require a prior agreement with the operator.
This is not a hurdle but an invitation: companies and organisations are explicitly welcome. A short message is enough and we will find an arrangement that fits — contact@abetterchoice.eu
Content rules
Whoever publishes a poll is solely responsible for its content — title, description and options. The operator does not review content in advance.
The following is not permitted:
- content that breaks applicable law — in particular criminal, harmful-to-minors or hate-speech content
- defamatory, insulting, threatening or harassing content
- content that infringes the rights of others, in particular copyright, trademark and personality rights
- personal data of others published without their consent
- the use of automated means that disrupt operation or distort poll results
Moderation and removal of content
Polls that violate these rules are removed by the operator. In serious or repeated cases, access to the service may be blocked.
Moderation statement pursuant to Art. 14 DSA (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065): there is no algorithmic selection, recommendation or prioritisation of content — the service lists no polls and suggests none. Moderation is exclusively manual and on notice, that is, following a report or an official order; no automated content-detection tools are used. Decisions are taken by the operator personally, after reviewing the individual case and with proportionality in mind.
Reporting a violation
Content that violates these rules can be reported at any time, informally by email: report@abetterchoice.eu
The link to the poll concerned and a short description of the violation are helpful. Every report is reviewed; whoever files a report is informed of the outcome on request.
Liability
The operator is liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, and for damages arising from injury to life, body or health. For ordinary negligence, liability is limited to the breach of essential contractual duties — those duties whose fulfilment makes proper use of the service possible in the first place and on whose observance you may rely — and is then capped at the typically foreseeable damage. Liability is otherwise excluded. Liability under the German Product Liability Act remains unaffected.
The operator is not responsible for content created by users; the liability exemptions of Art. 4 to 6 DSA remain unaffected.
